Look, we're not gonna tell you some fairytale about how everything was perfect from day one. Back in 2003, when Margaret and Thomas Hendrick first saw this plot of land halfway up the mountain, most people thought they'd lost their minds. "Who's gonna trek all the way up here?" they said. Well, turns out a lot of folks would.
The Hendricks weren't hospitality moguls - Tom was a wilderness guide who'd spent twenty years leading expeditions through these peaks, and Margaret ran a wellness clinic in Calgary. They just figured people needed a place where they could push themselves during the day and actually recover at night. Somewhere that didn't make you choose between adventure and taking care of yourself.
Construction took three years longer than expected. The first winter, half the foundation work got buried under twelve feet of snow. But they stuck with it, and in spring 2006, we opened our doors with just eighteen rooms and a dining area that doubled as everything else.
We've never tried to be the fanciest place around. Sure, our suites are gorgeous and the spa's got all the bells and whistles, but that's not really the point. What we've built here is a place where you can tackle a fourteen-hour hike, come back covered in trail dust, and nobody bats an eye when you hobble into the hot springs. Then maybe grab a proper meal that isn't just "health food" nonsense, before crashing in a bed that actually helps your sore muscles recover.
We've got folks who've been here since the beginning, and some who just joined last month. What they all share is this genuine love for the mountains and helping people experience 'em properly. Our head chef used to run backcountry cookouts. The spa director's got a PhD in sports medicine. Even our front desk manager's a certified mountaineering instructor on weekends.
We're not done yet. There's a new wing breaking ground next spring - thirty more suites, all designed with input from guests who've told us what they actually need, not what some architect thinks looks cool. We're also expanding the adventure concierge program because honestly, that's become the heart of what we do.
The mountains aren't going anywhere, and neither are we. Come see what we've built up here.
